چکیده

Experimental data on the average mass transfer liquid film coefficient (kL) in an aerated stirred tank are presented. Liquid media used were tap water, electrolyte solutions and water with controlled addition of tensioactive material. Values of kL range from those expected for bubbles with a mobile surface to those expected for rigid bubbles. These data are quantitatively interpreted in terms of bubble contamination kinetics, using a stagnant cap model, according to which bubbles suddenly change from a mobile interface to a rigid condition when surface tension gradients, caused by surfactant accumulation, balance out shear stress. © 2003 Elsevier B.V. Kinetics of Propane Hydrate Formation in Agitated Reactor: A Mass Transfer Approach

Understanding the kinetics of gas hydrate formation is essential to model and predict the hydrate formation (or dissociation) process. In the present paper, we investigated the formation of pure propane gas hydrate as a former gas. In this regard, several experiments were conducted to measure the rate of hydrate formation under various pressures (410 to 510 kPa) and temperatures (274 K to 277 K...

Determination of Volumetric Mass Transfer Coefficient in Gas-Solid-Liquid Stirred Vessels Handling High Solids Concentrations: Experiment and Modeling

Rigorous analysis of the determinants of volumetric mass transfer coefficient (kLa) and its accurate forecasting are of vital importance for effectively designing and operating stirred reactors. Majority of the available literature is limited to systems with low solids concentration, while there has always been a need to investigate the gas-liquid hydrodynamics in tanks handling ...

Gas Hydrate Growth Kinetics: A Parametric Study

Gas hydrate growth kinetics was studied at a pressure of 90 bars to investigate the effect of temperature, initial water content, stirring rate, and reactor size in stirred semi-batch autoclave reactors. The mixing energy during hydrate growth was estimated by logging the power consumed. The theoretical model by Garcia-Ochoa and Gomez for estimation of the mass transfer parameters in stirred ta...

Study on Mass Transfer Enhancement in a Gas-Liquid System Using Nanomaterials

The main objective of this paper is to examine the effect of nanomaterials on mass transfer coefficient in bubble type absorption of carbon dioxide by experiment. The absorption process is carried out in a bubble column and in room temperature. Mass transfer coefficient, saturated concentration of CO2, and gas holdup are determined in this system. The kinds of nanomaterials, the concentrations ...

Bioreactor scale-up and oxygen transfer rate in microbial processes: an overview.

In aerobic bioprocesses, oxygen is a key substrate; due to its low solubility in broths (aqueous solutions), a continuous supply is needed. The oxygen transfer rate (OTR) must be known, and if possible predicted to achieve an optimum design operation and scale-up of bioreactors. Many studies have been conducted to enhance the efficiency of oxygen transfer. The dissolved oxygen concentration in ...
